CONTROLLED BURNS & NOTIFICATIONS

Controlled Burn Line

If you need to burn grass, bush piles, or stubble, be well prepared and have fire guards in place.  Report “controlled burns” in order to avoid unnecessary fire calls and charges.

Call 1-866-404-4911                          24/7 – 365 days/year

You will be asked:

What is your land location?

What is your RM number?

What are you burning?

How long will your burn last?

Your name and phone number

As per section 369 of The Municipalities Act, unpaid fire call invoices will be added to your property taxes.  Please check with your insurance provider regarding adequate fire protection coverage.

Burn Notification Numbers

Burning activities within the provincial forest or within a 4.5 kilometer radius of the forest during wildfire season (April 1-October 31) will require a burn notification number.

These Notifications will help make sure that firefighters aren’t sent to your controlled burn location unnecessarily.

Under new regulations, these notifications replace burning permits. Here are more details about the new regulations, including exemptions for small fires.

To apply for a Controlled Burn Number, contact your local SPSA Response Centre Area Office (Hudson Bay SPSA Response Centre 306-865-4500) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will be asked for the following:

  • Name or organization responsible;
  • Contact number(s);
  • Mailing address;
  • Email address (if applicable);
  • Burn location(s); and
  • Purpose of the burn.

All fires must be extinguished by the expiry date and time.
