Running for Municipal Council: 2026 Election Information
Rural municipalities hold an election for selected divisions every two years. Council members are elected to serve a four-year term. The election rotation schedule is:
- 2026 Election: Division 2, Division 4, and Division 6
- 2028 Election: Reeve, Division 1, Division 3, and Division 5
Important Election Dates
- Nominations: September 21, 2026, to October 7, 2026.
- Nomination Period opens at 9:00 AM on Monday, September 21, 2026.
- All nominations must be received in the Municipal Office by 4:00 PM local time on Nomination Day (Wednesday, October 7, 2026)
- Election Day: Monday, November 9, 2026
Required Nomination Documents
To be deemed completed, your nomination package MUST include the following items:
1. Form I – Nomination and Candidate’s Acceptance Form
2. Public Disclosure Statement
3. Criminal Record Check
All required material MUST be received in the Municipal Office prior to the deadline.
Criminal Record Check
Candidates must submit a copy of Bylaw No. 2011-03 and Form B.1 (Results of Criminal Record Check for Candidates) to the correct RCMP detachment. Two pieces of valid ID, including one photo ID (a Driver’s Licence must display your current legal land description) are required.

Hours: Dates vary – By appointment only
Cost: No fee
Note: Candidates are strongly encouraged to contact their local RCMP detachment directly prior to visiting to confirm up-to-date availability, exact processing timelines, and payment methods.
Submission of Nomination Papers
Nomination papers are accepted at the Municipal Office during regular business hours (Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM) until the deadline. You may submit your forms via:
- In-Person or Agent: Deliver directly to municipal staff.
- Mail: Sent via Registered or Ordinary Mail.
- Digital: Sent via Fax or Email.
Important Notice: If you choose to submit by mail or email, please allow ample time for delivery. It is the candidate’s ultimate responsibility to verify receipt. Any nomination paper submission delayed in transit and received after October 7, 2026, at 4:00 PM (Nomination Day) will be deemed invalid.
